When do photographs fall into the Public Domain?

 

Anything published before January 1923 is in the Public Domain

 

Consequently old postcards, published before January 1923, are in the Public Domain.

 

A good source of postcards are antique shops and eBay.

 

Also, pre-1923 books are a good resource.

 

Government publications are usually in the Public Domain.
